Kim Jong-un

Third Supreme Leader of North Korea (2011–present), succeeding his father Kim Jong-il. Accelerated the country's nuclear weapons and intercontinental ballistic missile programmes, overseeing six nuclear tests and dozens of ICBM launches in defiance of UN Security Council sanctions. In 2017 claimed successful hydrogen bomb test. Conducted diplomatic summits with South Korean President Moon Jae-in and US President Trump (Singapore 2018, Hanoi 2019) without reaching a denuclearisation agreement. Consolidated power through purges, including the execution of his uncle Jang Song-thaek in 2013.
