COVID-19 Global Pandemic

A novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) first detected in Wuhan, China in late 2019 spread globally in 2020, triggering the worst pandemic since the 1918 influenza. Over 7 million confirmed deaths were recorded (excess mortality estimates exceed 15 million). Governments imposed lockdowns, border closures, and economic stimulus packages of unprecedented scale. mRNA vaccines were developed in record time and deployed from December 2020. The pandemic exposed healthcare disparities, accelerated remote work, strained global supply chains, and deepened geopolitical tensions between China and the West.
