Orange Revolution in Ukraine

Ukraine's November 2004 presidential election between pro-Western Viktor Yushchenko and pro-Russian Viktor Yanukovych was marred by massive fraud. Millions of Ukrainians took to the streets in orange-clad peaceful protest for weeks, forcing a revote. Yushchenko won. The Orange Revolution demonstrated Ukrainians' desire for European integration and democratic governance — and Russia's determination to prevent it, foreshadowing the 2014 Maidan uprising.
