Houthi Red Sea Attacks and US-UK Strikes on Yemen

Beginning in November 2023, Houthi forces in Yemen began attacking commercial shipping in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, claiming solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza. By early 2024 they had launched over 100 drone and missile attacks, striking dozens of vessels and disrupting one of the world's busiest shipping lanes — forcing companies to reroute around the Cape of Good Hope at enormous cost. The U.S. and UK launched airstrikes on Houthi targets in Yemen from January 2024 but failed to stop the campaign, which continued throughout the year.
