Israel-Gaza War

On October 7, 2023, Hamas launched a surprise attack from Gaza into southern Israel, killing approximately 1,200 people — mostly civilians — and taking 250 hostages. Israel declared war and launched a major military campaign in Gaza aimed at destroying Hamas, resulting in over 37,000 Palestinian deaths (Gaza Health Ministry) and a humanitarian catastrophe. The conflict triggered a broader regional escalation involving Hezbollah in Lebanon, Houthi attacks on Red Sea shipping, and Iranian-Israeli direct exchanges. It sharpened international divisions on Palestinian statehood and intensified anti-Israel and antisemitic incidents globally.
