North Korea Tests ICBM
North Korea conducted its first successful intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) tests in 2017, demonstrating the capability to reach the continental United States. Combined with a thermonuclear bomb test in September 2017, North Korea effectively became a nuclear power capable of striking American cities. President Trump engaged in escalating rhetoric ("fire and fury") before pivoting to three summits with Kim Jong-un in 2018-2019, which produced no lasting denuclearization agreement. North Korea has continued its weapons program under the cover of COVID isolation.
