Israel-Iran Twelve-Day War (Operation Rising Lion)
The Twelve-Day War was a qualitative escalation beyond the missile exchanges of April and October 2024: Israel's opening strikes killed Iran's senior military leadership and nuclear scientists directly, and the United States joined with strikes on three nuclear facilities on June 22 — the first direct US military action against Iran's nuclear programme. The war ended in a ceasefire rather than a resolution of the underlying dispute over Iran's enrichment capacity, and set the stage for the far larger 2026 Israel-US-Iran war eight months later.
